And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal.God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,"which is my problem, my issues, my pain." But one of the easiest way s to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthyIt also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money ,notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitter ness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.Happy moments, PRAISE GOD. Difficult moments, SEEK GOD. Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD. Painful moments, TRUST GOD.Every moment, THANK GOD.

Down to 80 degrees, Jackson and I headed over to the Acton Park. Naturally I forgot my camera, but the cell phone will always do!

I Don't Even Know

We moved back to Cali maybe two or three weeks ago, oh boy where does the time go??? It has been insane going through this transition. We have moved MANY MANY times before, in fact this may be our sixth or seventh in the four years we have been married, but this one was a biggy. I came back to doctor's appointments for JAckson and I, school meetings, Andrew came back to the exhausting search of a job - all has worked out beautifully, but it has been a journey.
Thankfully we had the chance to make the drive back over the span of two days - our 16 hours in Vegas was the vacation we needed.

Once back, we made our way to MALIBU! Home sweet home. It was so lovely to be back on the beach. Jackson was pretty timid at first, he is used to still waters or the protection of a boat. But once we told him the splashes were coming, he was ready to find joy and excitement in the crashing waves. And of course, it's no beach trip unless you eat a sandy peanut butter and jelly sandwhich.

We are currently developing a new routine. I am again working part-time, so two or three days a week, and I am gone for seven hours. Again we are blessed to have our mother's, Tori, and dad's, watch Jackson while we are gone. Andrew does have big news!!! He was given the opportunity to use his schooling and his passion to begin his career in drafting and design. He is now working 8-5, yes 8-5, that's a first, and he's in Lancaster. So while I drive about an hour or an hour and fifteen to work, he has a lovely commute of 25minutes. Which is nice when we are awaiting his return home!! We didn't think this job would be possible without further schooling, so we are grateful this has all worked out.

Fifita Sushi

If you are ever in Utah and in the need of good sushi, the only place to go is Fifita Sushi! As part of our going away, Shay and Kioa Fifita invited us over for dinner last night. In anticipation for this evening of sushi, I had a horrible nightmare. According to this revelation, Shay was planning on buying a few large fish, cutting them open, and serving it up! WOW, I was nervous and disgusted to say the least. But I was mistaken, this sushi was incredible!! See for yourself!

An Obedient Wife

There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money,and was a real "miser" when it came to his money. Just before he died,he said to his wife..."When I die, I want you to take all my money and putit in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me."And so he got his wife to promise him, with all of her heart, that when hedied, she would put all of the money into the casket with him. Well, he died.He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there - dressed in black,and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, andjust before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Waitjust a moment!" She had a small metal box with her; she came over with thebox and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down andthey rolled it away.So her friend said, "Girl, I know you were not fool enough to put all that moneyin there with your husband."The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I'm a Christian; I cannot go back on my word.I promised him that I was going to put that money into the casket with him.""You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him!?!?!?""I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account, andwrote him a check... . A Pepperdine Reunion

Kelly made grad school enjoyable and entertaining for me! When I heard Kelly was leaving California to venture out to Utah, I was so bummed because at that time, I was moving to her hometown of Simi Valley - go figure. Well yesterday Jackson and I had a chance to reunite with her and it was such a great, but HOT, day!! Aside from getting cut off and having some jerk throw something at my car, it was pretty peaceful. There's nothing like time with an old friend!

Grandma Remington

Yesterday was a sit and relax day until the evening. All of a sudden we were full of energy and ready to wash the car and head over to Riverton. My grandma offered to take us to dinner and it was DELICIOUS!

As many of you know, we are headed back to Cali. near the beginning of next week. We are so excited to get back but we weren't sure how we were going to get back. The trailer we used on the way here is no longer available to us and well, we were at a loss. Until last night... my grandma is getting us a Uhaul to caravan all our stuff to California and we couldn't be more grateful!!! It's amazing the joy those unexpected blessings bring!

SOLD OUT!

I am so sad - I have been waiting and waiting and then, the day arrived and they are SOLD OUT! Apparently the publishers for ECLIPSE did not print as many copies as they promised - so we are left high and dry! So here's to the end of the week!!!!!!
